Before developing the Online course, we taught negotiation to physicians and other healthcare workers in an in-person seminar setting over 2 two days. It was a transformative experience for the participants and we loved to meet everyone and work with them through their anxiety and knowledge gaps. It was great turning the attendees into Negotiation superstars.
Part of what made the workshops so successful was the opportunity to perform several mock negotiations in a realistic simulation. It started within the first few minutes of the seminar and a number of times throughout the day. Nerves turned to comfort, then to understanding, then to skill, and finally mastery.
Despite a resounding number of folks asking me to make the course available online, I resisted. I would only time my name to a top-quality product and I just wasn't sure whether I could put out physician negotiators without face-to-face negotiation practice. The idea for this school was shelved until I felt assured that it was feasible.
In my clinical professional life, something exciting happened. I started to really expand my telemedicine work. I was treating patients all over the US online. I was essentially using a much fancier, HiPPA compliant, Skype device to exam and treat critically ill patients in a real-time fashion. This included while the patients was in the Emergency Department, critical care unit, and even in the Pre-Hospital ambulance setting. The most incredible things was, my outcomes and complication rate was as good or better than treating patients in the bed-side setting.
If I could take care of critically ill acute stroke patients on-line, I knew a solution could be found for educating physicians.
After several issues of trial and error, we were able to develop an excellent method that solved the unique problems of negotiation training and the need for realistic simulations.
The first solution is the VIP one-on-one customized Skype sessions offered from the home page. This allows physicians to get high intensity practical experience from the expert all in a comfortable setting and at your leisure.
the second solution is the Negotiation MD Facebook Group page. If you are not familiar with group pages, I will offer you a brief introduction. Essentially, wihtin Facebook there are groups that represent a separate community of people with common interests.
